It is no surprise that Site Selection magazine ranked Iberville Parish fourth on its List of 2005 Giants in capital investment in 2006. Located in southeast Louisiana and blessed with major waterways, Iberville Parish is situated amidst the industrial corridor only 15 miles from the state capitol, Baton Rouge. Plaquemine is at the heart of Iberville.
Plaquemine is the home of a wide range of commercial and industrial operations because of its excellent transportation network, abundant raw materials, strong labor force and land availability.
Located in a large parish of some 600 square miles, residents and visitors have access to many waterways and recreational opportunities. The area enjoys a reputation as a haven for outdoor nature, hunting and fishing enthusiasts. It is home to several antebellum plantations and historic sites. The parish is operated by a Home Rule Charter form of government with an elected Parish President overseeing daily operations and Parish Council elected from single member districts. The six municipalities located within Iberville, including Plaquemine, are operated by elected mayors and boards.
Among the many features loved by residents are the area’s moderate climate, averaging 54 degrees in January and 82 degrees in July; its close proximity to the cities of Baton Rouge and New Orleans; a local 100-bed hospital in Plaquemine, plus easy access to Baton Rouge regional medical care; a quality library system of nine branches with the main facility in Plaquemine and over 192,000 items and computers with internet access; plus a variety of annual community events.
