Transportation Options Galore

Plaquemine offers an excellent transportation network, with easy access to a variety of transportation options:

INTERSTATE: Interstate 10 runs through north Iberville, and is only 15 minutes from the industrial corridor in Plaquemine. Major highway arteries, such as La. Highways 1, 30, 69, 75 and 404, provide easy access to the interstate, making the roadways a great route for numerous motor freight lines.

RAILROAD: Railroad lines for both Central and Union Pacific Railroads run through Plaquemine into a variety of areas throughout the country.

WATERWAYS: The Mississippi River and the Intracoastal Waterway, which run through the parish, add the option of barge and even ocean-going water travel. The Port of Greater Baton Rouge, the sixth largest port in the country, is only 12 miles away, providing a deepwater shipping facility that handles bulk commodities and can load or unload ocean-going vessels and barges. In addition, the Intracoastal Waterway provides a shortcut of 130 miles to the Gulf of Mexico.

AIRPORTS: Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport is only 25 miles away in Baton Rouge. It provides a variety of major airlines and air cargo services. New Orleans International Airport is only 65 miles away.

Mississippi River Ferry: The ferry provides transportation across the river from Plaquemine to Sunshine for vehicles and pedestrians. It is widely used by both workers getting to their jobs and visitors who want a first hand experience of the Mississippi River. The ferry operates from 5 a.m. until 9 p.m. seven days a week.
