Education

The 6,000 students of Iberville are lucky to have some of the finest school facilities and equipment in the state. And, Iberville residents have shown a strong commitment to education by passing a tax to make Iberville teachers among the highest paid in the state, thus enabling the system to attract the best teachers.

The public school system includes five high schools, and four middle and elementary schools. Additionally, a private parochial school, St. John School, provides kindergarten through 12th grade education. Public schools located in the Plaquemine area include Plaquemine Elementary School, E.J. Gay Middle School, Plaquemine High School, and Crescent Elementary.

Plaquemine is also home to Westside Technical Institute, which provides a variety of occupational training programs operated by the Louisiana Technical College system.

Higher educational opportunities are as close as Louisiana State University or Southern University in Baton Rouge.  LSU is the state’s largest university, with an  enrollment  of some  30,000  students.  A variety of specialty training programs are located within 30 miles of Plaquemine, including Baton Rouge Community College, Our Lady of the Lake College (medical and nursing) and others.
