City Light & Water Department

The City Light and Water system is operated by the City of Plaquemine. It provides electrical power, natural gas, water and sewer service to a total of about 12,000 customers, including residents of Plaquemine and those living in the outlying areas of the city. The City of Plaquemine is embarking on a $13 million project to improve and extend sewer service to un-served unincorporated areas in the region. Presently these areas have no sewerage collection and treatment, individual septic tanks and drain fields, or individual treatment plants. To address existing City and current regional needs, the City proposes the upgrade of the treatment plant as well as construction of an improved collection system.

Electric, natural gas, water and sewer service is provided by the City of Plaquemine. Plaquemine owns its own electrical plant, and is a member of the Louisiana Energy and Power Authority (LEPA), an 18-city association in Louisiana committed to providing excellent electrical service at competitive rates for its member cities.
