CITY OF PLAQUEMINE JOB OPENING

Job Title: City Inspector

Summary: Issues building permits and inspects plumbing, electrical and construction to ensure building codes are complied with, issues licenses to general contractors.  Work is performed under minimum supervision.

Qualifications:

• 18 years or older
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Must have (2) years of additional education and two (2) to five (5) years of work-related experience
• Must have a valid Louisiana driver’s license
• Pass drug testing
• Ability to meet and deal courteously and tactfully with the public
• Must have working knowledge of national building, plumbing and electric codes and an understanding of city ordinances
• Demonstrate management capability
• Must be able to pass the State Board examination to issue applicable permits within six (6) months of employment

Responsibilities:

• Must be able to do physical inspections of properties to inspect construction projects throughout the city to assure national building, plumbing and electric codes are complied with
• Must become familiar with all State and City Code of Ordinances relating to building, electric and sanitation
• Demonstrate understanding of construction is essential to this position
• Prepare notices such as grass cutting, nuisances, abandoned automobiles, condemnation, etc.
• Issue licenses to general contractors, electrical and plumbing contractors
• Work with Plaquemine Planning and Zoning Board and attend Board meetings
• Report to Mayor and Board of Selectman status of work progress and attend Council meetings
• Perform all other related duties as assigned

Starting salary: $28,080 - $36,650, depending upon level of experience.  Applications can be picked up and returned to the Office of the City Clerk at Plaquemine City Hall, 23640 Railroad Avenue, Plaquemine, LA  70764.
