The City Fire Department is led by Fire Chief Darren Ramirez. District Chiefs are Chris Rivet, Tony Seymour, and Adam Odiorne. The department includes 13 paid, full time firefighters and about 30 volunteers.
The Plaquemine Fire Department includes three fire stations and both paid and volunteer firefighters who respond to emergencies in a 70 mile area including the City of Plaquemine and the surrounding area. The department serves about 18,000 people within the fire district. It responds to a wide variety of emergencies including fires, medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, search and rescue efforts, hazardous materials incidents and other emergencies.

The efforts of the fire department have resulted in a PIAL rating of #2 inside the city limits, and a rating of #4 in the outlying areas of the city served by the fire department. This rating is used to determine fire insurance rates for businesses and residences. A #1 rating is the highest rating available.
Equipment includes six pumpers, one reserve pumper, one aerial, one reserve aerial and one rescue/EMS unit.
The Plaquemine Fire Department responds to an area that starts at the south boundary of West Baton Rouge Parish on La. Hwy. 1, to Random Oaks Subdivision south of the city, to the Mississippi River and west to the La. Hwy. 1/La 3066 intersection at Jack Millerís Landing and the Grosse Tete bridge on La. Hwy 77. The department also participates in a Mutual Aid Program with fire departments in West Baton Rouge, Bayou Goula, White Castle, Bayou Pigeon, Bayou Blue, Grosse Tete, Rosedale and Maringouin.
The department is also actively involved in many community programs, including the National Fire Safety Councilís fire safety program that teaches children fire safety. The departmentís fire safety presentations are made to children in playschool, elementary school, day-cares and organizations. It also participates in the Safety Town safety program for children annually, and provides fire prevention and safety programs for organizations and businesses.
The City of Plaquemine Fire Department is an emergency partner with the Iberville Parish Emergency Preparedness. Emergency partners include Iberville Parish Council, community and business organizations, the Iberville Parishís six municipalities, the State of Louisiana and federal government agencies with interests in Iberville Parish.
