PLAQUEMINE CITY PARK
City of Plaquemine officials are embarking on making additional improvements to the beloved 1950's City Park on Belleview Drive. Recently, updated improvements included the installation of the Water Spray Park, Skateboard Park and additional parking.
The City plans to apply for grant funding in the Spring, 2012 to update the Park's Master Plan. On Wednesday, February 15 at 6:15 pm., a City public meeting at Plaquemine City Hall will be held to review the preliminary Master Plan improvements and to receive your input for the final Master Plan design. The goal of the meeting is to identify the Park's recreational needs and desires of city residents and users.
Plans include the update of the vintage playground equipment, to create an inviting park entryway, improvement of the concession stand and restrooms, additional pavilions throughout the grounds and expansion of the walking pathway. The public meeting is just one step in the long-term strategic recreation planning efforts for the City of Plaquemine.
WATER SPRAY PARK CLOSED DURING FALL/WINTER
Year 2011 had an increase in attendance as youths and adults continued to utilize the Water Spray Park, located at Plaquemine City Park. The City's newest recreational facility feature - the Water Spray Park - opened in Years 2010. The Park site offers 12,000 square foot area of water-themed landscape and play features such as refreshing water falls, squirting water toys and lots of wet fun in the sun. There is no standing water as the water is potable and low volume. The playground provides for all levels of physical abilities while engaging children and their caretakers in water play activities.
The Spray Park is now closed for the rermainder of the year. The Park will re-open in May 2012.
During Summer 2011, the City added additional interior parking spaces. During the closed season, the City of Plaquemine anticipates to design and seek funding for further park improvements. The City will be working on updating the City Park Master Plan.

Other park anemities are still offered year round such as the Skateboard Park at City Park, picnic areas, walking pathways, basketball courts and the Plaquemine tradition of baseball.

NEWS:
The Water Spray Park and Skateboard Park projects was honored by the Louisiana Municipal Association Award Program during its 74th Annual Convention in Shreveport in August, 2011. The City Park project won the highest Community Development Award, competiting in populations of cities 3,000 to 10,000 within the state. Park improvements were designed and paid for by the City of Plaquemine. Ibeville Parish Parks and Recreation District maintains and operates the site, as part of a Co-Operative Endeavor Agreement.
