  1. Special Charter
The City of Plaquemine is governed under a special charter, which uses a Mayor and Board of Selectmen (also known as council members) form of government, in which the legislative functions of government and most policy-making are the responsibility of an elected mayor and board of selectmen. The Mayor and Board of Selectmen serve four-year terms. Council members are not full-time city employees, and do not maintain offices at city hall. However, citizens wishing to speak to a selectman may contact the City Clerk’s office by phone at 225-687-3661 or via their personal contact information.
