Heart of the Parish
The City of Plaquemine is at the heart of Iberville Parish and serves as the Parish seat. Located in southeast Louisiana and blessed with major waterways, Iberville Parish is situated amid the industrial corridor only 15 miles from the state capitol, Baton Rouge.
City of Plaquemine is the home of a wide range of commercial and industrial operations because of its excellent transportation network, abundant raw materials, a strong labor force and land availability. Located in a large parish of some 600 square miles, residents and visitors have access to many waterways and recreational opportunities. The area enjoys a reputation as a haven for outdoor nature, hunting and fishing enthusiasts. It is home to several antebellum plantations and historic sites.
There are six incorporated municipalities within Iberville Parish:

- St. Gabriel
- White Castle
Among the many features loved by the residents are the area's moderate climate, averaging 53 degrees in January and 82 degrees in July; its close proximity to the cities of Baton Rouge, Lafayette and New Orleans; plus easy access to Baton Rouge regional medical care; a quality library system of nine branches with the main facility in Plaquemine and over 192,000 items and computers with internet access; plus a variety of annual community events in the Parish.
City of Plaquemine enjoys a Property Insurance Association of Louisiana (PIAL) Number 2 fire rating. City of Plaquemine offers four utility services (electric, natural gas, water and sewer), which are publicly-owned and operated. Plaquemine is part of the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Statistical Area.

City of Plaquemine is part of the 18th Judicial District Court, which covers the Parishes of Iberville, West Baton Rouge and Pointe Coupee. Plaquemine City Court is housed in Plaquemine City Hall.
