IBERVILLE FRIENDS OF THE ARTS
A subcommittee under the Plaquemine Main Street Program -- Recognized as a Louisiana-Designated Creative Communities Initiative Program in Year 2013.The City of Plaquemine Main Street Program is recognized by the La. Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism (La. CRT) as one of ten cities in Louisiana to be recognized as a Louisiana Creative Community. The program’s intent is promoting arts as part of Louisiana’s cultural economy.
A small grant award helped to jump start the local arts organization formation, which is under the Plaquemine Main Street Program. Plans are underway to establish a database of local artists and promote the arts and local artists during Iberville Parish events. The Louisiana Creative Communities Program provided the local organization with a trained coach to help them develop a strategy and formulate a plan to implement a local cultural economy, using art as a catalyst.
Iberville Friends of the Arts will be scheduling events during the year. Under Events & News, such events are listed. The event is open to any local artist who wants to display and/or sell art at a booth. There is no fee for artists to participate. The Friends of the Arts will also be participating during the Louisiana Main to Main annual November event. During the second weekend in November, the annual Fiber Art Festival will host various artists to educate and sell their works of art at the Bayou Plaquemine Waterfront Park.
Iberville Friends of the Arts Committee members include Charlene Bishop; Beth Cardinal; Stephanie Peneguy, Christina Cope, Steele Loubiere; Betty LaBauve, Randy LaPrairie; and Ruth Williams, and Linda Cope.
