Plaquemine City Park underwent a $700,000 transformation that was completed in 2018 that has received rave reviews from residents. It is now complete with a state-of-the-art playground, a water spray park, a skate pad, baseball/softball fields, basketball courts, a lighted walking trail, barbeque pits, picnic pavilion, and benches shaded by beautiful oak trees. It also includes a new restroom building, concession stand at the ball fields, new dugouts for teams, improved drainage and a new entry way. The massive improvement project at the park won the prestigious Louisiana Municipal Association's Community Achievement Award in 2018.
The results of the transformation is that use of the park has quadrupled, it has fostered many family and group events at the park, inspired improvements at other parks and has become a great source of pride among Plaquemine residents.
The Water Spray Park is generally open from May through the fall, depending on weather.
